Are the Lord of the Rings difficult to read?

I’m not ignorant but some of the names and lingo in the world of the Lord of the Rings seems difficult to understand, and say. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The first time through, it’s REALLY hard to get through (but very worthwhile). The hardest part for me to get through was the Council of Elrond. There is a whole lot of history there that gets incredibly monotonous. But if you skip over the songs/poetry and languages (for now, be sure to reread it later) and let the history stuff go, it’s really good and that should help you get through the first time. Of course, it’s been a REALLY long time since I read it myself for the first time. And by that point, I’d heard my dad read it to me in its entirety several times so I knew the story well. Try these tips, as well as some of the others you see here.
